WordPress: How to Set a Homepage?

Here’s our guide to WordPress: how to set a homepage? Homepage is a place where your readers and visitors land when they visit your website for the first time. It is usually a page that gives an overview of your site and its content, allowing readers to quickly understand what it’s all about before reading further into other pages.

By default, WordPress displays the most recent blog postings on your homepage. A list of the most recent blog posts is usually what you’ll want to display on your home page if you have a basic WordPress blog or a magazine website. But what if you need to create something different – a custom homepage?

WordPress: how to set a homepage? Here is a step-by-step guide.

Create a Custom Homepage in WordPress

In this step, we’ll create a WordPress page, that we will later use as a homepage for your blog. To create a page in WordPress, login to your WordPress admin dashboard, and then:

  1. Click on the Pages >> Add New.
  2. Add a page’s title and content.
  3. Then click on the Publish… button to publish your page.

Create a Blog Page

Our homepage will now be directed to the WordPress site we created in step 1. That’s why we’ll need another page to showcase our blog posts (if you are planning to publish them). This page will become a placeholder for all our blog posts and articles.

  1. Click on the Pages >> Add New.
  2. Add a page’s title, let’s say “Blog”.
  3. Then click the Publish… button to publish your page. Don’t worry about its content just yet.

Set a Static Page as Your WordPress Homepage

In the final stage, we’ll set WordPress to use our static homepage we created before as the front page. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Click on Settings >> Reading. You will find these buttons in your dashboard.
  2. Change the setting “Your homepage displays” to “A static page”.
  3. Select the page we created in step one as your homepage.
  4. As the final step, select the blog page we created earlier as your designated Posts page.
  5. Save the changes.
  6. You don’t have to change the URL of your static home page every time. WordPress will take care of it.

The only thing that’s left is to create your dream homepage in WordPress using your favorite WordPress theme. Did you like our guide to WordPress: how to set a homepage? Leave a comment below!
